Construction work is continuing on the D1 highway project in Slovakia. Completion of the highway project has been delayed due to a number of factors.
A new agreement has been settled between Slovakia’s roads firm, NDS< and the contractor carrying out the work. Although construction work was not halted prior to the talks between NDS and the contractor, progress had slackened.
The highway will run across the country and link East and West when complete. So far over 500km of the route has been built, with work on around 30km being carried out. Work has yet to commence on a portion linking with Slovakia’s Eastern border with Ukraine. Work on the twin tube tunnel at Cebrat has also yet to be completed.
Meanwhile, construction work for the Ruzomberok bypass will not be completed until 2023. The section was intended originally to be ready for use in 2017. The cost to build the 15km section of road was expected to be €227 million but will now cost around €307 million. Construction of this road section is being carried out by a consortium comprised of OHL’s local subsidiary and Vahostav.
