Shay Murtagh Precast has been supplying main contractor Costain with all precast units for the Whitley Junction Improvement works in Coventry, England.

Costain was contracted by Coventry City Council to remodel the junction on the A444, one of the busiest routes in the city.

Shay Murtagh Precast manufactured and delivered 30 Y5 beams, 4 YE5 beams, 2 cast on parapets as well as 750 Hexlok Panels with feature finish for the reinforced soil walls and abutments.

Shay Murtagh Precast manufactured 22 bridge beams for the bridge deck of the A444 superstructure. The team also manufactured 14 bridge beams for the River Sherbourne structure.

The project also included a large quantity of reinforced soil in the construction of the two new bridges as well as the long slip road retaining wall. The system chosen was the HexLok system and 750 HexLok panels were manufactured for these structures.

The extension of existing reinforced concrete walls and bridges with reinforced soil structures required a large number of the company’s HexLok panels to be specially cast in order for the new structures to join seamlessly with the existing bridges.

Shay Murtagh Precast, a family company based in Ireland, specialise in prestressed and precast concrete products, including bespoke products, bridge beams, concrete storage tanks, culverts and tunnel segments.
