Russia’s capital,Moscow, is to benefit from a major road building programme in the 2021-2023 period. This follows on from extensive works carried out over the last decade. According to the Moscow Construction Department, over 1,000km of new roads have been opened to traffic in Moscow in 10 years.
The important programme on boosting connectivity by building ‘chords’ that radiate out from the centre of the capital will help improve the city’s chronic traffic problem.
Drivers are already using the North-Western Chord, while six of the eight stretches that comprise the North-Eastern Chord are complete. The remaining two stretches will be complete in 2022.
Meanwhile, work on the other chords is underway at present. Seven bridges are being built in various locations across the city. Progress is good and the city authorities say that the target for 205km of roads to be built between 2021-2023 may even be exceeded.
