Romania has major plans for road development works, with a network upgrade programme worth €12 billion. The 320km A7 highway linking Ploiesti and Pascani is expected to take 1/3rd of the budget.
The European Commission has approved €2.6 billion of funding in the shape of €1.8 billion in grants and a package of loans worth €800 million. Transport and road safety will be amongst the priorities for the funding. This will form part of a National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).
The A7 highway connects Buzau and Foscani and the work is being carried out in several sections. The final two sections of the A7 will take just over two years to build, with the work costing €266 million for the 31km stretch between Vadu Pasii and Ramnicu Sarat, which includes building 18 bridges. The 36km section between Mandresti Munteni and Ramnicu Sarat and will cost €296.6 million to construct, with the work including building 12 bridges.
Meanwhile,work worth €176 million will be carried out to the DN71 route linking Baldana with Targoviste and Sinaia. The contract will be carried out by a joint venture comprising ESTA Construction Group and Gun Al Madencilik Insaat Nakliye Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Sirketi.
