Repair works are planned for Australia’sNew South Wales State while the cost of a new overpass in Northern Territories State looks set to increase.
A budget of US$210 million (A$312.5 million)has been set for road repairsin New South Wales (NSW). The budget will pay for 57 separate projects in Mid North Coast, Northern Rivers, Central Coast, the Hunter and New England regions. Roads and bridges damaged by the heavy flooding of recent months will be repaired, with the funding having been provided jointly by the NSW State Government and Australian Federal Government. New drainage and infrastructure protection measures will also be carried out to help minimise the risk of future flooding.
Data suggests that councils in NSW will require $1.55 billion (A$2.3 billion) to maintain and repair roads in the state sufficiently. But the Australian Federal Government is not providing the funding required.
Meanwhile, in Darwin the cost of an overpass project is now expected to come with a pricetag of US$111 million (A$165 million). Revisions have already been carried out to the plans for the works. The project is for a new overpass at the intersection of Berrimah Road and Tiger Brennan Drive. The project is being handled by contractor Sitzler in two phases.
