Caterpillar’s heavy-duty 980 GC wheeled loader is said to benefit from low fuel consumption, load-sensing hydraulics, intuitive controls and performance series buckets. Easy to own and simple to operate, the 19tonne class machine offers an economical solution for a broad range of applications.
The new 980 GC features proven components and integrated Cat machine systems, with a simple user interface, intuitive controls and high operator visibility. New features to this model include the engine idle management system (EIMS) to minimise idle RPM and fuel consumption.
Power comes from the Cat C13, rated at 313kW and featuring a Cat clean emissions module that operates without impacting production. The EIMS, auto engine idle shutdown, variable speed fan and load sensing hydraulics combine to minimise fuel consumption and sound levels. The machine is available in Tier 4 Final/Stage V and Tier 3 variants to suit different markets.
The proven automatic planetary powershift transmission delivers high reliability and long service life, with four forward/reverse speeds and a maximum 39.8 km/h. The proven electronic clutch pressure control (ECPC) is said to allow smooth gear changes in all operating conditions. Available ride control improves operating smoothness over rough terrain while ensuring excellent material retention. The optional limited slip differential axle increases traction in poor conditions.
Bucket capacities range from 4.3-5.8m3 and the Cat performance series buckets use a system-based approach to balance bucket shape with lift and tilt capacity, weight and linkage. Field proven, the Cat Z-bar loader linkage has a cast crossmember and tilt-lever for strong digging efficiency and high breakout forces. The 980 GC can be equipped with the Cat fusion quick coupler and controls, allowing use of a wide variety of work tools.
Cat VisionLink is standard for the 980 GC and allows fleet managers to track critical loader operating parameters like machine location, hours, fuel usage, diagnostic codes and idle time to improve productivity and lower operating costs. Also optionally available, Cat Payload weighs material while moving to the truck and lifting for on-the-go weighing and avoiding over- or under-loading.
