The Philippines’Government has given official approval for the construction of the Pasig River Expressway (PAREX) project. The expressway will feature three lanes in either direction and will be built by San Miguel Corporation (SMC).
The work is expected to cost US$1.88 billion and will provide an improved connection between Radial Road 10 and Circumferential Road 6. The new expressway is expected to help reduce peak time traffic congestion. Included in the project will be the construction of a dedicated bus lane as well as cycle lanes and facilities for pedestrians.
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Pasig River Expressway Project is an all-elevated expressway that traverses the Pasig River. The 19.4km route will improve transport between the City of Manila and South East Metro Manila.
The Project will use a 2.7km stretch of Skyway Stage 3 between Nagtahan and Plaza Azul. The construction of the PAREX project is being carried out in three segments.
SMC is now underway with the first stages of the construction work for the elevated toll road.
