Construction work is now progressing well with the project for the new Heroes del Chaco Bridge in Paraguay. The cable-stayed bridge is 603m long and is being built with two traffic lanes in either direction as well as having facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge is being built by the consortium Consorcio Union, which comprises CDD Construcciones and Constructora Heisecke. In addition to the bridge itself, the project includes building various access roads with a total length of 7.4km.
The project has been managed by Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC). The design for the bridge was changed, resulting in increased costs for the work and also causing some controversy. However, the work is now well in hand at least. Much of the funding required for the project is being provided by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB).
