The bid documents for Pakistan’s important Hyderabad-Sukkur highway have been approved. This further paves the way for the project to be carried out. The official approval was given by the board of Pakistan’s Public-Private Partnership Authority (P3A).
Construction of the highway is expected to cost close to US$1.2 billion. The 306km highway will be built with three lanes in either direction and is expected to take 2 ½ years to build once construction gets underway. The project is being handled under the build-operate-transfer model. The route features 89 bridges, 15 interchanges and 243 underpasses.
The highway is being designed for a maximum travel speed of 120km/h and will make a significant reduction in journey times between Hyderabad and Sukkur. Completion of the project will deliver the last link to improve connectivity between the north and south of Pakistan, providing a significant boost to transport in the country. The highway is also of international significance as it forms part of the Eastern Alignment of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
