Two massive road projects are now coming to fruition in Russia. One of the projects is for the construction of a stretch of the Krasnodar-Kerch expressway, while the other is for the Kemerovo Bypass in Siberia. The work will improve connectivity in Russia. However, a change in strategy in Russia is seeing an increased focus on repair and maintenance work for existing roads, rather than the construction of new links.
Phase II of the A-289 Krasnodar-Kerch expressway will cost nearly US$754 million to build. The project includes building a number of civil structures, the largest of which will be the 1km bridge spanning the Protoka River. A further 16 small bridges will be built to cross canals, as well as six multi-level interchanges and seven overpasses.
Included in the contract also will be drainage for agricultural areas and a number of rest facilities for drivers. The A-289 route has a total length of 119km.
Meanwhile, the Kemerovo Bypass will measure 47km and is expected to cost $765 million. Construction work is commencing in December 2021 and will take up to four years to complete. The financing for the project has yet to be finalised however.
