A 2.6km bridge is being planned to span the Vistula Lagoon. The bridge is expected to cost US$660.5 million to build. The structure will feature a cable stayed design and carry two lanes of traffic in either direction, with a capacity of 10,500 vehicles/day.
The project will be carried out by the Tenth Concession Company, a division of VIS Group. Building the bridge forms part of a wider plan to develop the Kaliningrad region. Construction should be complete by the end of 2024 and the concession package for the project will see VIS Group operating the link until 2047.
Meanwhile, the Russian government has set a budget of $135 million to improve the ring road around Kaliningrad. The work will commence in 2021 and should take until 2025 to complete The budget will pay for the upgrade to the stretch between the interchanges connecting with Zelenogradsk and Baltiysk. Improvements first started on the bypass in 2014.
