A new programme of works will benefit the road network in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The plans are being drawn up in neighbouring Uganda and are intended to improve transport in Central and Eastern Africa.
Called the Regional Connectivity Roads Project, the plans call for around US$330 million of road construction, upgrades and maintenance works to be carried out in the DRC. Around 223km of new road connections will be built.
Three improved routes will boost transport between the two nations, as part of a plan to improve trade. The DRC Government will provide 20% of the necessary funding, with the Ugandan Government also providing 20% of the funding. The Ugandan construction firm Dott Services will secure the remaining sum required to finance the works.
