Important new road construction projects are being carried out in Mexico at present. One new highway will connect Acapulco and Juarez, while another new road will link capital Mexico City with its new international airport.
Construction of the 202km road linking Acapulco and Juarez is costing US$211.3 million. The new road will help boost tourism in the area, a major contributor to the economy of this part of Mexico. The project is being managed by the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT).
Meanwhile, the new road linking Mexico City with its new international airport is costing US$196.2 million. The work is being carried out by Aleatica and the road will run from the Circuito Exterior Mexiquense to the new Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA), a former military airbase now being rebuilt as a civilian airport.
The new airport is required as Mexico City’s existing international airport has struggled to cope with demand in recent years. A different airport project was planned previously but this was cancelled on grounds of cost, due in part at least to the complexity of improving the unsuitable ground on which it was to be built.
