Important new highway stretches are being planned in Russia. One highway will run from Moscow to Kazan, while another will be a bypass around Sosnovy Bor in the Leningrad Region.
The new highway stretch for the Moscow to Kazan route is expected to cost US$2.43 billion. This will improve transport between Russia’s capital Moscow and Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan.
The state-owned Russian highway company Avtodor is working on plans for the route at present and aims to complete this work in 2021. Around 142km of the route will run through Tatarstan, while the entire highway length will be 729km. The cost of the entire Moscow to Kazan highway is expected to be around $11 billion.
Meanwhile, work on a new bypass around the coastal town of Sosnovy Bor in the Leningrad Region is now nearing completion. Around 75% of the work on the bypass has been carried out according to estimates. A 5.5km stretch of road as well as bridges spanning the Koporka River and Voronka River and an overpass remain to be built. The work on the 21.6km link should be finished by the end of 2020.
