A new four lane highway bridge is planned for the Philippines to connect with Samal Island. Work for the sea crossing will be managed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The design and construction work for the bridge project meanwhile is being handled by China Road and Bridge Corporation.
Building the bridge link between Davao City and Samal Island is expected to cost US$391.6 million. The project has been the result of discussions between the Philippines Government and the Chinese Government. Much of the financing for the Samal Island-Davao City Connector (SIDC) project is being provided by China.
Meanwhile, funding from Japan will help pay for the 45.4km Davao City Bypass Construction Project. The package is being provided via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Construction of the route will cut journey times for drivers between Barangay JP Laurel in Panabo City and Barangay Sirawan in Toril District via the Pan-Philippine Highway Diversion Road.
