Construction is underway for the $22 million bridge spanning The Red River, connecting China and Vietnam. The new Bat Xat-Ba Sa border will feature a cable-stayed design with three spans, a reinforced concrete deck and will be 230m in length.
The two countries are both involved in the project and are sharing the cost of its construction, with completion expected in mid-2026. The bridge will link Basa in Hekou County in southwest China’s Yunnan Province with the Bat Xat district in Vietnam’s Lao Cai Province. Although the cost of the bridge project is comparatively low, it is of key significance for transport and trade between the two nations.
