Important road expansion work is now underway in Nepal, managed by the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, reports Ram Krishna Wagle, World Highways’ Nepal correspondent. Key improvements include work to upgrade the congested Koteshwore-Jadibuti road in the country’s capital, Kathmandu. This stretch of road is also the eastern main access point to Kathmandu Valley, which links Kathmandu with Terai and Nepal’s Eastern districts.
This stretch of road has suffered from chronic congestion for some time, with delays for drivers being frequent. An additional four lanes will be added to the route, which is expected to cut the current traffic jams by 30-40%.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport acquired the land required for the road widening work from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Part of the financing required for the work is being supplied by the Japanese Government. Japanese input will also help with the construction of atunnel stretch in the area.
