Final approval for the Messina Strait Bridge crossing has now been awarded by the Italian Government. The massive suspension bridge will carry both road and rail links and will cost€13.5 billion to construct.
The project will set construction records for the longest suspension bridge span ever constructed, as well as the highest support towers. The link will connect Calabria in Southern Italy with the island of Sicily, replacing the existing ferry service. It will speed transport and provide a much needed economic boost to both Sicily and Calabria.
