The long-planned bypass project for Hosingen in Luxembourg is under construction at present. The 4.4km bypass is costing just over €200 million and is being built in two stages, with the first section due for completion in 2028 and the entire project being finished in 2030.
Construction work for the bypass commenced in 2023 and the 320m tunnel stretch, with twin bores carrying two lanes apiece, forms the key section of the project. The work also includes building an underpass and a roundabout.
The bypass has been needed for some years, with around 17,000 vehicles/day using the N7 and passing through Hosingen. Congestion in the town has been an issue, along with concern over transport emissions and road safety issues. The new bypass will improve journey times for drivers and cut congestion in Hosingen. Facilities for pedestrians and cyclists will also be added as part of the project, providing safer routes through Hosingen for vulnerable road users.
