Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) in Vietnam is developing an extensive plan to improve its transport infrastructure. The plan calls for upgrades to be made across all modes of transport between 2020 and 2030. With such a massive programme planned, the cost could reach as high as US$40.7 billion in all.
Work will be carried out on 639km of roads and 78 bridges, as well as 18 intersections. Bus rapid transit systems, 379km of waterways and 212km of urban rail will also be improved.
The HCMC authorities have established a partnership with the Southern Transport Consultation and Designing to carry out the works. The programme will utitlise a combination of financing sources from state funds,Vietnam’s Central Government and PPPs.
