The go-ahead has been given for the construction of anew highway connection in Russia. The new M12 highway will connect Moscow with Kazan, however it will lie to the south of the existing M7 highway linking the two cities. The route of the M12 will pass through Vladimir, Arzamas and Kanash and the highway will be built in four separate phases. In all the project is expected to cost US$9.2 billion, with the work expected to be complete by 2027. Meanwhile work will be carried out to repair, upgrade and widen the existing M7 and M5 highways, lying to the north and south of the new M12 route respectively.
