STRABAG will build the new Uttrichshausen viaduct for the A7 Autobahn in Germany. The firm will replace the 900m-long Uttrichshausen viaduct on the A7 Autobahn in Hessen.

Work will begin as early as August 2024. According to DEGES Deutsche Einheit Fernstraßenplanungs- und -bau, with completion due at the end of 2029.

“We are pleased to have been awarded the contract for the construction of the new Uttrichshausen viaduct. Building modern bridges is essential for the development of our infrastructure. We are therefore proud to be able to apply our expertise to this important supra-regional transport axis on the A7 motorway,” STRABAG CEO Klemens Haselsteiner said.

At 962km, the A7 is the longest federal motorway in Germany. The Uttrichshausen bridge is located on the A7 south of the city of Fulda and crosses the valley of the Uttrichshausen district of the municipality of Kalbach. The viaduct carries a heavy traffic volume and is expected to be used by 51,000 vehicles/day by 2030.

In addition to building the new viaduct, the contract includes dismantling the two existing structures, which are 880m long and together approximately 30m wide. They were built between 1966 and 1968 and have reached the end of their working life.

The new bridge structure to be built extends over a length of 900m. The two component structures will be constructed in the same position as the existing structure and equipped with 5m-high noise barriers and a noise-mitigating road surface.
