A funding package is being agreed for a $1.3 billion highway project in Pakistan. The Asian Development Bank and the Pakistan Government have agreed on financing for the 306km highway section linking the cities of Sukkur and Karachi. The M6 highway project will feature three lanes in either direction, with 15 interchanges as well as 10 service areas for drivers. The M6 is a key stretch of the route linking Karachi with Peshawar.
Meanwhile, a further five road projects are being carried out with a total cost of just over $505 million. These include work to upgrade the 225km stretch of N5 between Sanghar and Rohri, the 135km Mehran Highway between Ranipur and Nawabshah and the 31.4km road between Tando Allahyar and Tando Adam. They also include work to the 150km road between Rohri and Guddu Barrage and a new 36km stretch of the Sindh Coastal Highway.
