Abypass project for the city of Rouen has been approved by the French Government. The plans call for a bypass that will connect with the A28 and A13 Autoroutes on the eastern side of the city.
The planning process is due to commence in early 2022. Construction is expected to commence in either 2027 or 2028. Completion is expected in either 2030 or 2031.
The bypass will be tolled and is expected to measure 41.5km in length if the proposed alignment is used. The work should cost in the region of €886 million. The French Government will provide €245 million, while the region will provide €205 million and the department will provide €40 million. The source of the remainder of the funding required for the new highway link has yet to be announced.
There is some local opposition to the project however as the work is not favoured by the authorities in the city of Rouen and there are also some environmental concerns.
