The proposed upgrade to Highway 12 near Lahti in Finland is expected to cost €92 million. The stretch connecting Uusikylä and Mankala in Iitti is in need of improvement works, according to officials from the city of Lahti. Additional state funding will be required to pay for the upgrade according to the Lahti Urban Environment Committee, as the financing from the land use, housing, and transport (MAL) agreement will not be sufficient.
Meanwhile, in Finland’s second city Tampere, the deck of the Erkkilä Bridge is now in its final position. The 68m bridge is 1m higher than the previous structure that was built in 1983, providing greater clearance for the rail traffic passing underneath. The project has been managed by the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency.
And a contract has been awarded to GRK to carry out improvements to a 16km stretch of Highway 21 between Palojoensuu and Kuttanen. Around 4km of the existing road will be upgraded, while a new alignment will be built for 12km of the road. Design work is commencing, with construction planned to start in late 2026.
