STRABAG Oman has won a contract worth €100 million to improve roads in the centre of Muscat. The 18th of November and Al Mouj Streets will be expanded as part of a project to improve transport infrastructure in Oman’s capital.
The project has been commissioned by Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The work involves widening the street named after the birthday of Oman’s late Sultan Qaboos bin Said to three lanes, building a flyover and underpasses, and redesigning roundabouts into signal-controlled intersections. The work is intended to reduce congestion for Muscat’s main transport corridor, boost connections to Muscat International Airport, Sultan Qaboos Highway and Muscat Expressway and improve traffic safety.
Oman is a strategically important market for STRABAG, with the firm building a new corporate headquarters in Muscat. The plan is to construct the STRABAG headquarters in the west of Muscat at a cost of €12.4 million. The building has five levels and a gross floor area of around 7,500m². The first two floors will mainly serve as a car park with 57 parking spaces, while the upper floors will house modern office space for around 150 workplaces. Completion is scheduled for spring 2027.
