The €1 billion plan to cover a 1.3km stretch of Autobahn in Frankfurt, Germany has been approved. The project would see a new 1.3km cut and cover tunnel stretch as part of a new road link in the East of the city. A green area for public use would be located above the roadway, with the project intended to reduce noise and traffic congestion for the city.
The project has been discussed for some time, but is now more expensive at €1 billion from the €350 million when proposed in 2019. Funding for the project would have to be sourced from t he German Federal Government and the Hesse State Government. The project will cut traffic congestion in the Riederwald area of the city.
