Perkins launched a new Tier 4/Stage IIIB engine at bauma 2014 held in Shanghai, China. The 404F-E22TA is a turbocharged aftercooled 2.2litre unit. With a power output of 50kW it delivers the power that previously an engine of up to 2.9litres would have been required to provide.

FPT Industrial is introducing a new Tier 3 engine range at bauma China 2014. The new F5, NEF and Cursor Series engines include a range compliant with Tier 3 emission regulations for China, developed in partnership through its joint venture with SFH. The engines were developed with the assistance of SFH’s extensive research and development facilities both in Chongqing and Jiading-Shanghai.

Cummins unveiled two new engines at bauma in Shanghai. Both the QSF3.8 and QSB7 are primarily for the Chinese market and are Tier 3 compliant. “They are optimised for excavator products and for Chinese OEM manufacturers” said Jonathon White Executive Director of Off Highways at Cummins. German engine manufacturer Deutz Group warned that a third quarter dip in sales revenue and warranty issues concerning its Compact Engines segment meant the company will not meet its previous forecast for the financial year 2014. A statement from the Cologne-based company said “significant costs will be incurred over the coming years in connection with warranties and goodwill for engines from the DEUTZ Compact Engines segment, primarily relating to engines manufactured in 2011”. Kennametal claims its latest tooling system offers increased efficiency due to increased cutting action and decreased cutter drag. The new KPL and KPR 302 system from Kennametal features a longer gauge length for road milling drums, which reduces power requirements when planing. At the same time, the new system is said to offer 20% greater wear length allowing longer working before tool changes are required. Meanwhile conveyance capacity is said to be improved by 50% while reducing drag on the cutter.
