Oman’s Ministry of Transport has awarded a contract to Galfar Engineering and Contracting for the Adam-Thumrait road project. The package of works is worth just over US$299 million and is for the 135km Part 4 section of the route.

Galfar Engineering and Contracting will widen and upgrade the road as part of the dualisation improvements along the route. The contract is for a period of 39 months.

The firm’s contract involves building a new carriageway from Miqshin to Duka,, including 16 U-turns, service roads, rest areas, eight median openings and numerous facilities for drainage, as well as medians and embankment protection. It also includes upgrades to some sections of the existing road and removal of other sections of the existing road.

Meanwhile the Part 3 stretch is the 132.5km section from Haima to Muqshin, while Part 5 is for the 132.km between Duka and Thumrait. Work to these sections also include building U-turns, service roads, median openings and drainage systems.

In all the Adam-Haima-Thumrait route stretches 717.7km. Parts 1 & 2 are under construction at present. This major road project is being handled by Oman’s Ministry of Transport on behalf of the government. Meanwhile, Parsons International is acting as consultant for the Ministry of Transport in the tendering and supervision of the project.
