Construction work is underway for the Westend Bridge in Berlin. The structure forms part of the A100 and is located on the west side of the city. The old Westend Bridge had to be closed earlier in 2025 due to its poor condition and was then demolished. The city’s Ringbahn Bridge also had to be closed due to structural and is also being replaced.
The construction work for the new Westend Bridge is being carried out by a consortium and should take around 18 months to complete. Once the new bridge is ready, the stretch of the A100 between the TV Tower and Spandau will be reopened.
Meanwhile, the replacement of the Westend Bridge and Ringbahn Bridge will only be part of the improvement work required for the city. T he authorities have recognised that a total of 300 bridges in Berlin need to be either replaced or upgraded. Of these, 175 need to be replaced by 2040, while the remaining 125 will need major improvement works.
