Uganda is helping to co-fund a road project worth $334 million in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The work will see improvement works to three stretches of road. One is for the 89km road linking Bunagana to Goma, while another is for the 50km road between Beni and Butembo and the third is for the 80km road connecting Mpondwe to Beni. Uganda’s Ministry of Works and Transport says that as these roads are close to its border with DRC, the improvement works will help boost cross-border trade that will provide a key economic benefit to both nations.
Also in the DRC, work is commencing on a $78.5 million project for a new road linking Petit Kasaï to Kwilu. Work is being carried out too for Provincial Road 231 that will link Batshamba to Kakobola. The Provincial Road 231 work is being carried out by Chinese contractor CISC-SA and is being managed by the Congolese Agency for Major Works (ACGT).
In addition, work is planned for the Kinshasa Ring Road Project. This will see widening work for the road to N’Djili International Airport via Ndjoku Avenue.
