Further expressway expansion works are now being carried out in China as the country’stransport infrastructure development works continue.

Plans are in hand for a new 122.4km expressway that will improve transport between Jiangxi Province and Zhejiang Province that is expected to cost US$4.8 billion. The route will connect Ningbo, Jinhua, Quzhou and Shangrao and the work will include building toll facilities, service areas and 13 dual tube tunnel stretches.

The $2.18 billion Golden Drum Expressway project will provide and 80km link connecting Tongcheng and Tonggu in Jiangxi Province. The construction work is expected to take four years to complete and will include tolling facilities, on and off ramps, parking facilities and two service areas.

Two major projects will develop transport connections in Hubei Province. Work is underway for a 44km stretch of the new route linking Wuhan and Chonqing. Building this section will cost $1.34 billion and it will feature six lanes in either direction. The contract for an extension to the expressway linking Qiaokou and Xiaogan has been awarded to China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co. Building this 54km section will cost $1.89 billion.

The tender process is now underway for the Deyang ring road project in Sichuan Province. The planned alignment for the expressway extends 61km and the project is expected to cost $2.43 billion to construct.

Tendering is underway in Hainan Province for upgrades to a section of the Hainan Ring Expressway. The stretch between Haikou and Boao is to be widened and improved. The work is expected to come with a pricetag of $2.1 billion. The project is being managed by the Hainan Province Transportation Department.

A new bridge in the port city of Quanzhou in Fujian Province will help reduce congestion. The work is costing $510 million. The new Jinyu Bridge and its connecting roads measure 4.5km and the work includes building interchanges at either end, while the project is located in the Taishang Investment Area.

Road improvement work worth $306 million will be carried out in Shijiazhuang in Hebei province. The work will be handled by a consortium that includes CCCC Second Highway Engineering (CCCC Second), Shijiazhuang Road and Bridge Construction Group (Shijiazhuang Road) and Shaanxi Jitong Road and Bridge Construction. This is the second phase of transport infrastructure works for the city of Shijiazhuang. New main roads, bridges and secondary roads as well as parking areas will be built.

Meanwhile, work is now underway on a key stretch for the China National Highway 110 route in Inner Mongolia. Costing $494.3 million, this new section will connect Bikeqi and Xieliqi. Once the China National Highway 110 route has been completed, it will measure 1,426km.
