The African Development Bank (AfDB) has agreed a loan facility with the Cameroon Government for akey highway project. The loan is worth US191.7 million. With this agreement the AfDB will have provided $212.9 million of the backing for the road project, which will see roads being rehabilitated, upgraded and also maintained.
The ring road project is due for completion at the end of 2024. Construction of the project, in the north west of the country, is expected to help trade and transport between Cameroon and neighbouring Nigeria. Measuring around 357km in total, the road is planned as a loop that connects Bamenda, Bambui, Ndop, Babessi, Kumbo, Nkambe, Misaje, Nyos, Wum, Bafut (and Bamenda again).
Completion of the road will provide a much-needed boost to the development of the economy of the area, as well as helping deliver stability to this area of Cameroon.
