A new road tunnel for Brisbane in Queensland, Australia could cost from US$5.1-6.5 billion but would help address severe road congestion issues. T he proposed Gympie Road Bypass Tunnel would link Kedron and Carseldine as a potential solution to ease congestion and reduce traffic on Gympie Road.
A tolled bypass tunnel between Kedron and Carseldine would deliver faster travel times in Brisbane’s northern region while also reducing pressure on Gympie Road and return the corridor to local road users, as well as public and active transport. Gympie Road is a key route for north Brisbane and a major route linking Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. However, it is one of Queensland’s busiest, most congested roads. A new tunnel solution would benefit business and industry by improving productivity and efficiency for freight and commercial vehicles.
