Romania’s Transport Ministry is planning on increasing its transport infrastructure budget budget for 2023. The 17% boost will see the country having a budget of €4.73 billion for transport development works. Of this, €2.415 billion will go towards road improvements while a further €1.056 billion will go to rail upgrades.
One project will see work carried out to the Cluj Metropolitan Belt. An agreement has been signed between the authorities in the city of Cluj-Napoca and the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR). The 42km Cluj Metropolitan Belt development programme has a total value of €1.141 billion and will feature two phases.
The €564.34 million contracts for the final two lots of the A7 highway section between Buzau and Focsani have been awarded. The work will be carried out in just over two years by a joint venture made up of SA & PE Construct, Spedition UMB, Tehnostrade, and Intertranscom Impex. A funding package is being supplied by the NRRP.
Meanwhile, Romania’s Ministry of Transport says that €3.65 billion of road contracts were awarded during 2022. Key packages signed recently are for three sections of the highway linking Bacau with Focsani.
And drivers are now able to use the first 13.2km stretch of the highway connecting Sibiu with Pitesti. The section opened to traffic four months ahead of schedule. Building the section has cost €124.4 million, with the funding package being supplied by the EU.
In addition,Romania’s Regional Operational Programme (Regio-POR) in the West region has seen improvements to roads, over 530km of new lighting and 56km of new cycle lanes.
