Project management consultancy Atkins has been appointed by England’s Surrey County to develop and lead maintenance and improvement work over its 4,830km of roads.
Under the five-year Highways and Infrastructure Professional Service contract Atkins will work with the county and its key partners. The contract is worth over €45.8 million (£40 million) to Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, and there is an option to extend for four years.
Atkins will deliver asset management design for single carriageways, dual carriageways and local roads, as well as associated infrastructure such as bridges, embankments, street lighting and drainage systems, specifically drainage and flooding assessments and improvements, Parking and traffic schemes are also included.
“This is a significant contract and one which will demand an innovative and flexible approach as we look to meet the changing needs of Surrey’s road users while ensuring on time and to-budget project delivery,” said Simon Moon, regional client director for local transport at Atkins.
