Arctic groundwork specialist contractor Arctic Infra has won work on the Autio-Anttis Väg 395 road upgrading contract in north-eastern Sweden.
According to the Swedish highways agency Trafikverket, the €16.21 million deal involves widening and strengthening 20km of road between Autio and Anttis in Pajala municipality. The contract is the largest so far for Arctic Infra, based in nearby Västerbotten County with its vast wilderness areas and a land area larger than Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland combined.
The project is part of the larger iron ore transport project Malmtransporter Kaunisvaara Svappavaara for increased accessibility and traffic safety along the road between Kaunisvaara and Svappavaara. The project also includes the construction of pedestrian and bicycle lanes as well as certain noise protection measures.
Trafikverket says that it has rebuilt 12km of the 16km road between Kaunisvaara and Svappavaara. Construction is underway for the Palokrova-Junosuando stretch, Junosuando village and new bridge over the Tärendö River. Planning is underway for the stretch Autio-Anttis, new bridge over the Torne river at Autio, level crossing Merasjärvi and game fencing and fauna crossings on the road E45.
