The Romanian government has approved a €200 million loan with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for another section of the A3 Transylvania Motorway project.
The deal, co-financed by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility, involves construction of a 42.3km section of the motorway between Nadaselu and Poarta Salajului. Work is expected to be completed next year.
The A3 motorway, when finished, will run nearly 600km from the capital Bucharest to the Transylvania region and the northwest part of the country. It will take in the towns and cities of Ploiești, Brașov, Făgăraș, Sighișoara, Târgu Mureș, Cluj-Napoca, Zalău and Oradea. At the border it will connect with Hungary’s M4 motorway near Borș.
Around 160km are open, including the 62km Bucharest-Ploiești segment.
Meanwhile, Romanian media report that a bid has been submitted for construction of two viaducts on the Nadaselu-Mihaiesti section of the A3. Cost of the project is estimated at €220 million.
A joint venture of Ozaltin Insaat ve Sanayi, Ilgaz Insaat Ticaret and Vision Construction Work are said to have submitted the bid.
