The Australian Flexible Pavement Association (AfPA) has published a practical guide covering the transport and handling of crumb rubber-modified binders, CRMB.

The guide has been developed to assist operators in the heating, cartage, pumping and transfer of crumb rubber-modified binders. It covers from the point of manufacture to the delivery on site or at a depot, while maintaining product homogeneity throughout the process.

It looks at heating issues, such as temperature limits, maximum heating rates and circulation. There is information on transportation itself, including pre-departure checks, in-transit temperature management and circulation schedules by journey length.

Discharge is covered as well, including pre-discharge circulation, split discharge procedures and site positioning advice.

There is also a “CRMB Transport & Handling Checklist” to assist in properly recording the transportation event.

The guide can be accessed free on the AfPA website.
