An $806 million highway upgrade is being proposed in Denver, Colorado. An improvement project for a 10.4km stretch of the I-270 highway has been put forward by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
The plan is to widen the highway with an extra express toll lane in either direction. This would cut congestion and journey times for drivers.
CDOT is inviting the public to review and comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for improvements to Interstate 270, in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration, (FHWA). This will include a preferred alternative that would add one Express Lane in each direction. There will be three in-person public hearings where the public can learn more about the DEIS and provide comments in person or via a comment form after the hearing. There will also be two informational webinars that the public can attend to learn more about the DEIS from project team members.
Meanwhile, improvement work has been carried out to a 1.6km stretch of Interstate 70 near Exit 285 toward Airport Boulevard. The work has been carried out in Adams County by contractor Myers and Sons Construction for CDOT. The project upgraded existing drainage structures, added new trench drains and installed a channel filtration system to reduce flooding and improve water flow. Crews also removed built-up debris, protecting inlets, and connected new concrete pipes to the existing drainage system.
These improvements will help prevent hydroplaning and ice formation while also extending the lifespan of the road by protecting the pavement from water damage. New guardrails were also installed as well as new signage and striping, improving the roadway visibility.
