An urban renewal project worth a colossal $7.46 billion has been set for Taiwan’s capital, Taipei. This is the largest single programme of urban development for Taipei in a century.
Called the Xinmatsu Town New Town Project, this will improve the Songjiang Road, Xinsheng North Road and Jilin Road areas. Work will be carried out by Xianglin Construction.
Meanwhile, work is being carried out in Taipei for the Danjiang Bridge and Danbei Road projects. Work on the $780 million Danjiang Bridge should be complete by the end of 2025, with the structure intended to be open for traffic in March 2026. The 5.45km Danbei Road project is costing $350.4 million and is due to open in 2029.
In addition, Taiwan’s Highway Bureau is looking at alternatives for the Lanyang Bridge in Yilan. This bridge is listed currently as a historic structure. However, it is at risk of closure during storms or periods of flooding. Work could be carried out to improve the resilience of the bridge to extreme weather conditions.
