Plans are being drawn up in Uzbekistan for the 171km highway linking Tashkent and Andijan. The $3.66 billion highway is expected to cut journey times between Tashkent and Andijan to 2 hours 30 minutes. The route will run between Tashkent, Angren and Kamchik and will allow transport even during poor winter conditions. Various contractors from China, France and Turkey are reported to be interested in tendering for the work, which is being managed by Avtoyulinvest, part of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport.
Meanwhile, funding is also being secured for the 52km highway project to improve transport between Tashkent and Charvak. An agreement being established between Qatar firm Protocol Capital Group and the South Korean company Korea Expressway Corporation looks likely to lead to the development of the new highway. The project is also being managed by Avtoyulinvest and is expected to take 36 months to complete once work gets underway.
