Construction work is commencing for the $364 million road project to speed transport between Liberia and Sierra Leone. The transnational road project is intended to increase the transport trade and cut journey times between the two nations, delivering a much needed economic boost. This project follows a programme of works to boost transport for the region, with a new road also linking Liberia with Ivory Coast.
The new Liberia-Sierra Leone route will feature a 217km stretch with a single lane in either direction and this will be free for use. However, a 38km stretch of the road between St Paul Bridge and Klay will feature two lanes in either direction, and this section will be tolled. The 25-year concession package for the package will be handled by Pavi Fort.
