The bridge will provide an improved transport link between Paraguay and neighbouring Brazil. The bridge has a wider role to play for Latin America however, being part of the important bio-oceanic corridor. The 2,400km route will link the Pacific Coast and Atlantic Coast through Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile, stretching across the South American Continent.
The bridge is being built by a consortium, Binational Consortium PY-BRA, which comprises Tecnoedil Constructora, Cidade Ltda and Paulitec Construções. Financing is being provided by Itaipu Binacional.
Meanwhile, piles are being driven for a 4km stretch of elevated highway in Paraguay’s Luque area. The PPP project will deliver a road featuring two lanes in either direction, linking the Ñu Guasu and Silvio Pettirossi highways to Luque and San Bernadino. A consortium, Rutas del Este Consortium, is carrying out the construction work.
In addition, piling work is also underway for the 500m second bridge that will span the Monday River in Alto Paraná. This structure will form part of the Eastern Metropolitan Corridor (CMDE).
