Plans are in hand in Montenegro for the construction of a new stretch of the highway connecting Matasevo and Smokovac. The highway stretch will measure 23.5km and its construction is expected to cost €500 million.
Financing for the highway project will come from a number of sources. The EU will provide €200 million for the works. The remainder of the financing will be provided through a package of loans as well as from the Montenegro Government. Construction of the highway is expected to cost €1 billion in total. The building work could commence within 24 months should all the necessary approvals be gained, in addition to the completion of the financing package required.
