Vietnam’s Southern Region is to benefit from massive investment in expressway construction. At present the network is some 223km in total but by 2026 the network will extend to a total of 935km, with further construction planned.
The work is being managed by the Ministry of Transport. Key projects underway at present include Ring Road 3 for Ho Chi Minh City, the expressways linking Ben Luc and Long Thanh, Bien Hoa with Vung Tau and An Huu with Cao Lanh. They also include the expressways linking Chau Doc with Can Tho and Soc Trang, Can Tho and Ca Mau, Cao Lanh with Lo Te and the Lo Te to Rach Soi. These routes total 712km in length.
Meanwhile, there are plans to improve three national highways in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta area. The work to the three routes is expected to cost $385 million and the roads are National Highway 53, National Highway 62 and National Highway 91B. Part of the funding for the upgrade work is coming from a loan worth $262 million, which is being provided by The World Bank. The improvement works will help boost connectivity in the Mekong Delta area.
