Important road and highway works are underway across Vietnam at present. Around US$1.07 billion is being spent by Long An Province to improve 11 road connections with Ho Chi Minh City. Meanwhile, a $216.6 million project has been proposed to widen and upgrade Hanoi’s Phap Van-Cau Gie expressway.
The work in Long An Province will see improvements to a 23km ring road for Tan An City, work to the 22km Duc Hoa Road, the 6.2km Luong Hoa-Binh Chanh Road and a 4.6km stretch of Tan Lap-Long Hau Road. Work will also be carried out on a 12.8km stretch between Thanh Commune and Tan Buu Commune, as well as on sections of provincial road 826E, provincial road No 824, provincial road 827E, provincial road 826E and provincial road 830E. The Long An Province State budget will pay for some 61.2% of the works, with construction planned to commence during this year and due for completion in 2025.
In Hanoi the proposal for the Phap Van-Cau Gie expressway suggests that the route will be widened so that it will feature either four or five lanes in either direction, compared with the three lanes in either direction it has at present. The work would be carried out under the build-operate-transfer model under the proposals. The work is required as the route is now carrying considerably more than the 92,000 vehicles/day that it was designed for. Before the start of the current pandemic the road was carrying 100,000 vehicles/day, with future traffic projections envisaging further growth.
