Strong interest is being seen for the project to build Uganda’s new Kampala-Jinja Expressway. So far eight bids have been submitted for the project, which is expected to cost around US$985 million to build. The tender for the project should be awarded in December 2019. So far the bidders include the Austrian contractor Strabag, the Chinese contractor China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and the Indian contractor Shapoorji Pallonji Group. The bids are being managed by the Uganda National Roads Authority. Building the expressway will help boost traffic capacity on the route and will also help to reduce the rate of road crashes. The project forms part of a series of works to improve transport links across East Africa that will help boost economic development in the region.
