Thailand is setting out the plans for its Land Bridge project, which will cost nearly $31 billion. The Land Bridge will provide a more efficient transport connections stretching across South-East Asia, improving transport for Thailand and its neighbouring nations. The authorities in Singapore are said to be showing an interest in the plans.
The plans will include new port facilities at Ranong and Chumphon in Thailand, as well as both a new highway and a new rail link to provide an efficient connection. The 90km road and rail links will allow faster transport for goods between Ranong and Chumphon, providing an alternative to vessels having to use the congested Malacca Strait.
The plans are due for discussion in the Thai Government, with the first preparatory work possibly commencing in the third quarter of 2026. The Thai authorities are keen for both local and foreign investors to take part in the project in the future. The Land Bridge project is one of several intended to boost transport for Asia, with plans being discussed between various nations.
