Carmix is working on a trial project with a French contractor, where its mixers will be used to batch concrete close to the location where it will be laid, with any leftover concrete washed so that the aggregates can be reclaimed. “It is a trial project that aims to reduce carbon emissions and reduce waste,” explains Carmix marketing manager and co-owner Manuela Galante.
The weighing and mixing technology at the heart of the Carmix process has been designed to deliver accurate and reproducable mixes, says Galante, so that it can be used for any concrete on any type of project. One of the big differentiators between Carmix mixing trucks and competitor equipment is its weighing technology.
“We are the only company that has a weighing system that acts in the drum with four electronic load cells, two at the front and two at the back,” she says. “All our competitors use a system that acts in the shovel so that when the bucket reaches a certain level, the system converts the oil pressure into weight, but that cannot be as accurate and fast as our system.” Carmix’s system can also automatically adjust to change the water-to-cement ratio if there is different humidity in the mix’s components.
Carmix’s biggest market is South America, exporting mainly to Peru, Chile and Mexico. Africa is a growing market, with mixers regularly shipped to the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Ghana and Ethiopia. Australia, particularly central Australia, is also a popular destination for its equipment.
In October 2022, Carmix launched a new remote monitoring app, Carmix Plus. The first mixer equipped with the system was due to be supplied to a customer in the US in May this year. The app allows the machine, the mix it is making, and its position, to be monitored remotely.
Currently, the app is only available on the Carmix 3500 TC model. The next development phase will see Carmix roll it out to all its models.
Carmix sells its machines to 157 countries and has a facility dedicated to the Indian market, which it set up 10 years ago. The Indian plant produces two ranges in common with the Italian facility and two that Carmix designed specifically for the Indian market.
During Covid, Carmix took the opportunity to expand its manufacturing facility in Italy, increasing the manufacturing area, the storage area – to avoid the supply chain issues that the world has been experiencing recently – and its video meeting space.
Galante believes that the strength of Carmix, which was founded in 1976 by her father, is to be specialised in self-loading mixers and open and flexible to the multiple demands coming directly from jobsites. “We are always trying to optimise the design and our production process,” she says.
